A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the response of two newly introduced peanut genotypes (NC7 and Ausa hanim) compared with the local cultivar Sadia under three planting dates (15 April, 1 May and 15 May). The experiment was arranged in a randomised complete block design with a split-plot layout and 3 replications. Significant effects of planting dates, genotypes and their interaction were observed on vegetative growth traits. Planting on 15 May resulted in the shortest period to 50 % flowering, whereas early planting on 15 April significantly enhanced plant height, leaf area per plant, leaf area index and number of branches. Among genotypes, NC7 exhibited earlier flowering and greater leaf area development, while Ausa hanim showed superior plant height and branching ability. The significant interaction between planting dates and genotypes highlights the importance of optimising planting time according to genotype performance. Overall, early planting combined with appropriate genotype selection can substantially improve peanut growth performance under the environmental conditions of Anbar Province.
