Abstract

The need for using denotation maps in practical foreign language classes at nonlinguistic universities is emphasized. This facilitates the development of cognitive abilities and enhances the intrinsic motivation of students at departmental universities of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The didactic potential of denotation maps, developed by the authors for developing students' verbal skills in the academic disciplines "Foreign Language" and "Foreign Language in Law" at a nonlinguistic university, is examined. The provisions on this issue described in the scientific literature are analyzed. It is concluded that denotation maps create psychologically comfortable conditions for overcoming language difficulties and increase the academic motivation of students at educational institutions of the Federal Penal Service of Russia.
