Abstract

Abstract

The long-term introduction experience of nine species of the genus Iris at the exposition of Eastern Europe Flora of the Main Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) is summarized in the article. A total of 29 samples were tested, of which 25 were collected from natural habitats. 10 samples were grown from seeds. According to N.B. Alekseeva, the species are grouped into four arealological groups based on their geographical distribution: Eurasian group (I. halophila Pall., I. sibirica L.); European-Caucasian group (I. pseudacorus L., I. pumila L., I. scariosa Willd. ex Link); European group (I. aphylla L., I. germanica L., I. graminea L.); predominantly Asian group (I. humilis Georgi). The species are characterized according to the ecological scales of E. Landolt and D.N. Tsyganov. When selecting sites for growing irises, their ecological features were taken into account. Special attention is paid to species listed in the Red Data Books of the Russian Federation, Moscow Region, and the city of Moscow. The location and collection dates of the samples are indicated. Data on the timing and duration of flowering, average plant height during wilting, maximum cultivation duration, and resistance sample in culture are presented. The population dynamics of individual samples are shown. The largest number of tested samples was for I. pumila. The cultivation of one sample of I. pseudacorus (№286) has lasted for 79 years. N.V. Trulevich's scale was used to assess introduction resistance. I. aphylla, I. halophila, I. humilis, I. pumila, I. sibirica turned out to be resistant in culture. I. graminea and I. pseudacorus demonstrated high resistance. Currently, five species are grown at the exposition: I. aphylla, I. graminea, I. pseudacorus, I. pumila, and I. sibirica.
