Abstract

Abstract

The article analyses immersive learning as an innovative pedagogical paradigm in the system of foreign language teaching at higher education institutions. The study's relevance lies in the rapid digitalisation of education and the growing need to modernise traditional teaching approaches to meet the demands of the contemporary information society. The aim of the research is to provide a comprehensive analysis of immersive learning and to examine international and Ukrainian experiences of its implementation in foreign language education. The research is based on a set of theoretical methods, including analysis, synthesis, generalisation, and comparison of scientific sources. The study clarifies the concept of immersive learning and identifies its key characteristics, particularly in relation to virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies. It is established that immersive learning creates interactive and experiential environments that enhance learners' engagement, motivation, and communicative competence. The paper also highlights the differences between immersive learning and traditional teaching approaches, emphasising their learnercentred nature and their potential for personalised learning. The analysis of international experience demonstrates the effectiveness of immersive technologies in improving language skills and creating authentic communicative situations. At the same time, the study reveals that the implementation of immersive learning in Ukrainian higher education remains limited due to technological, methodological, and organisational challenges. The findings indicate that immersive learning has significant potential for transforming foreign language teaching. However, its successful integration requires the development of methodological frameworks, improvements to technical infrastructure, and enhancements to teachers' digital competencies. The prospects for further research include empirical studies on the effectiveness of immersive learning and the development of practical recommendations for its implementation.
