This study aims to analyze the independence of Waspadaaceh.com in reporting the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election. Media independence is a fundamental principle in journalism that requires news to be objective, balanced, and free from external influence. However, in practice, it is often affected by individual, routine, organizational, external, and ideological factors as described in the hierarchy of influences theory. This research employs a quantitative approach using descriptive content analysis. The data consist of 48 news articles related to the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election published by Waspadaaceh.com. The results show that the news coverage generally reflects media independence, indicated by the low presence of opinion, sensationalism, stereotypes, juxtaposition, and inaccuracy. Nevertheless, a significant level of bias is found in the personalization indicator, which tends to favor the candidate pair Bustami Hamzah–Fadhil Rahmi. In conclusion, although most indicators show independence, media neutrality is not fully optimal due to the presence of personalization bias. Strengthening editorial policies and improving journalistic professionalism are recommended to enhance media independence in political reporting.
