Abstract

The wide civil-military applications of maritime unmanned systems, including unmanned surface vehicles and unmanned underwater vehicles which are used in areas such as surveillance, reconnaissance, exploration and rescue, have increased the demand for reproducible and reliable test and evaluation (T&E). However, existing T&E cases have limitations in terms of reliability, reproducibility and openness because they are often performed fragmented, equipment-oriented and closed. To solve these problems, a T&E framework and an open laboratory (Open Lab)-based operation human-machine interface (HMI) were designed. As the T&E framework, a master table sample and a procedure document template were designed. In addition, as the Open Lab-based operation HMI, a portal system display was designed. Defense standards such as Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI), Military Standard (MIL-STD) and Military Handbook (MIL-HDBK), as well as international standards such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), were analyzed and mapped to verify the validity of the designed sample and template that connect the components of the HMI. These results show that the designed sample, template and HMI improve the reproducibility, reliability and openness, providing a foundation for the standardized T&E of maritime unmanned systems.
