The minimum wage constitutes a fundamental labor policy instrument for protecting workers’ income and promoting the recovery of their purchasing power. The objective of this study was to comparatively analyze minimum wage setting in Mexico during the 2020–2026 period, considering its evolution and the main documented socioeconomic indicators. A predominantly qualitative documentary study with descriptive quantitative support was conducted, employing a descriptive-comparative scope and a non-experimental, retrospective longitudinal design through the review of official regulations, institutional reports, and scientific literature. The results revealed a sustained upward trend, as the general minimum wage increased from MXN 123.22 per day in 2020 to MXN 315.04 in 2026, representing a cumulative nominal increase of 155.7%, while in the Northern Border Free Zone it rose from MXN 185.56 to MXN 440.87, equivalent to an increase of 137.6%. Furthermore, the sources analyzed reported improvements in labor income, reductions in certain wage gaps, and decreases in poverty, with no statistically robust evidence of negative effects on aggregate employment. It is concluded that Mexico’s wage policy consolidated a progressive process of minimum wage recovery, although its outcomes should be interpreted in light of inflation, informality, productivity, and regional heterogeneity.
