Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the historical development of science in the Western and Islamic worlds from the ancient, medieval, modern, to contemporary periods. Using a qualitative method based on literature review, the research analyzes both chronologically and thematically the evolution of scientific knowledge as influenced by social, cultural, and political factors, as well as the contributions of key intellectual figures in each era. The main focus of the study is to analyze the patterns of scientific development and the roles of intellectual figures within their respective socio-cultural and political contexts. The findings indicate that the advancement of science is a dynamic process shaped by cultural acculturation and intellectual exchange between civilizations, particularly between the West and the Islamic world. The Islamic world played a vital role in preserving and advancing classical knowledge, which significantly influenced the progress of science in the West, especially during the medieval and modern periods. Furthermore, the transformation of scientific knowledge in the modern and contemporary eras reflects significant advancements in technology and methodology, including digitalization and international collaboration. This research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the contributions of both civilizations to the development of global scientific knowledge.
