Abstract

This publication presents several examples of personal correspondence from classic Tatar literature by the renowned writer Gumara Bashirov (1901–1999), who turns 125 this year. It features letters addressed to the writer’s close friends and associates – Hasan Tufan, Hamit Yarmi, and Shaikhi Mannur – as well as replies to some of them. All documents presented, primarily written in Arabic, are held in the collections of the Written Heritage Center of the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature, and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. Specifically, the material used by the author of this publication is drawn from the personal collections of Gumar Bashirov (75 collections) and Hasan Tufan (133 collections). Each of these letters is a valuable source for researchers of G. Bashirov’s life and work, offering insight into his inner world and understanding the unique worldview of the writer and the 20th-century Tatar intelligentsia as a whole. These letters can also rightfully be considered part of the historical and cultural annals of the republic and the country in the 20th century.
