ਨਾਵਲ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਯੁੱਗ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਵਿਧਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਟਿਲਤਾਵਾਂ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕਲਾਤਮਕ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਖੋਜ-ਪੱਤਰ ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਨਿਹਰਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਵਲ ‘ਨੌਂ ਮਣ ਲੁੱਕੜਾਂ’ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ, ਆਰਥਿਕ, ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰਕ ਪੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਬੁਰਜੁਆਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਲੋਤਾਰੀ ਵਰਗ ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੇ ਪਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਵਲ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਕਾਮੇ ਵਰਗ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸੰਘਰਸ਼, ਪੂੰਜੀਵਾਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ, ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅੱਤਿਆਚਾਰ, ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਅਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਕੰਮੋ, ਆਤਮ, ਬਚਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕਲਿਆਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਰਗਨ ਵਰਗੇ ਪਾਤਰ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਵਰਗ ਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਭਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੰਮੋ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਰੂਪਮਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦਕਿ ਆਤਮ ਅਤੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਵਰਗ ਦੀ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧੀ ਹਨ। ਨਾਵਲ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ, ਦੇਸ਼-ਵੰਡ, ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਸੱਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਰੋਧਾਭਾਸੀ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ, ਅਫ਼ਸਰਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦੀ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਦੀਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦਾ ਯਥਾਰਥਵਾਦੀ ਚਿੱਤਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਾਵਲ ਦਾ ਕੈਨਵਸ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੀਮਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਨਸਲਵਾਦ, ਸਾਮਰਾਜਵਾਦ, ਅੰਡਰਵਰਲਡ, ਕਾਲਾਬਾਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮੇਟਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਰਕਸਵਾਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਕੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਰਚਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਇਹ ਨਾਵਲ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ, ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ-ਪੂਰਨ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਨਾਵਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਵਲ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਕੈਨਵਸ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਯਥਾਰਥਵਾਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਪੱਖੀ ਸੰਕਟਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਭਾਵੀ ਹੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
