Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine activities to preserve traditional games for children outside of school and to determine how traditional games influence character development in out-of-school education. The qualitative research method involved data collection through observation, documentation, and interviews using purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Traditional games in out-of-school education include village competitions to introduce traditional culture, such as tug-of-war, sack races, and other games. In addition, carnival activities at the junior high school, early childhood education (PAUD), and village levels aim to preserve regional culture for the Ternate community in general. Children's social development is a developmental process that allows them to interact with others in ways acceptable to a society and culture. Traditional games are a vehicle for stimulating the character values of children in Ternate through play, jumping, throwing, and laughing cheerfully. These activities directly influence motoric, psychological, and physical development, creativity, and sportsmanship. They are carried out in groups with peers and require solidarity, cooperation, honesty, and responsibility.
