Abstract

Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the potential of advanced technologies for the conservation and sustainable development of reindeer herding in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. It demonstrates how innovative digital, automated, and biotechnological solutions in animal husbandry and veterinary science can not only significantly increase the industry's economic productivity but also dramatically improve the breeding value of reindeer, their resistance to various diseases, and other factors, ensuring the viability of reindeer herding in extreme Arctic conditions. Particular attention is paid to identifying and systematizing existing problems and barriers that currently hinder the effective integration of new technologies into traditional reindeer herding practices. It analyzes how the introduction of innovations can contribute to increased herd growth, improved product quality, optimized use of pasture lands, and, consequently, increased economic efficiency. The importance of developing and implementing flexible strategies that take into account the regional, socio-economic and traditional characteristics of the indigenous peoples of the North is emphasized. The article is intended to become the basis for making informed, strategic decisions on the modernization and sustainable development of the reindeer herding industry.
