الاهداف: هذه الدراسة تهدف إلى بحث مفهوم التعافي في شعر تريسي ك. سميث من خلال دلالته المزدوجة: الشفاء والاستعادة، متسائلةً عمّا إذا كان شعرها يُجسِّد التعافي بوصفه عملية شفاء، أم يعيد صياغة التجربة الصدمية. المنهجية: تستند الدراسة إلى نظرية الصدمة، ولا سيما إسهامات كاروث وآيرمان، ولاكابرا، وتعتمد المنهج التحليلي النوعي والقراءة الدقيقة لقصيدتي Wade in the Water وI Will Tell You the Truth About This, I Will Tell You All About It ؛ وذلك لتحليل العلاقة بين الصدمة والذاكرة والفقد والغياب والتعافي. النتائج: تكشف الدراسة أن شعر سميث لا يقدِّم التعافي بوصفه مصالحة أو وصولًا إلى الإغلاق، بل يعيد تنشيط الصدمة التاريخية والثقافية عبر الزمن، مع التمييز بين الفقد والغياب. كما تتخذ سميث دور ما يسميه آيرمان (الجماعة الحاملة) إذ تنقل الذاكرة الجمعية والصدمة الثقافية من دون أن تحلّهما أو تنهي أثرهما . الاستنتاجات: تستخلص الدراسة إلى أن التعافي في شعر سميث يُفهم على نحوٍ أفضل بوصفه انخراطًا أخلاقيًا مع استمرارية الصدمة، لا بوصفه شفاء منها. ومن ثم تقوم سميث بتوظيف شعرها النعويإلى فضاءٍ للشهادة والتذكّر, داعية القراء الى التعاطف.
