This article aims to examine the revocation of wills within the scope of Inheritance Law, considering the essentially revocable nature of testamentary dispositions and their relationship with the testator’s private autonomy. The research addresses the different ways in which testamentary revocation may occur under the Brazilian legal system, analyzing its requirements, effects, and legal consequences. It seeks to understand how Brazilian law guarantees testators the possibility of modifying or rendering ineffective, either wholly or partially, provisions previously established to take effect after their death. The study also examines the distinctions between express and implied revocation, as well as the circumstances in which the execution of a new will may affect previous testamentary provisions. In addition to the rules established by the Brazilian Civil Code, the article considers the main doctrinal and judicial interpretations concerning the subject, particularly with regard to preserving the testator’s final wishes. Accordingly, the study seeks to demonstrate that revocability constitutes a fundamental characteristic of a will, allowing its author to reconsider succession-related decisions in light of personal, family, or patrimonial changes occurring throughout life. Finally, the article emphasizes the importance of properly interpreting the testator’s intentions in order to simultaneously safeguard private autonomy, legal certainty, and compliance with the limitations imposed by Inheritance Law.
