Abstract

Abstract

Five vessels of opaque blue glass from the Achaemenid period were found in the necropolis of Lori Berd. Funnel-shaped vessels are known from examples of toreutics and pottery, particularly from Asia Minor, Iran and the Caucasus. The flasks and bird-shaped vessels have direct parallels in north-eastern Iran and western Kazakhstan. Analysis. Lori Berd's study of the glass vessels reveals the patterns of exchange of these objects in the peripheral areas of Achaemenid Persia, and beyond its borders. Results. The author of the article argues that the glass objects under discussion were produced in a workshop in north-western Iran, the products of which were transported through the Caucasus to the southern parts of the Urals.
