This article presents a transcription of an unpublished judicial document from the Archive of Ourense Cathedral concerning the monastery of San Clodio do Ribeiro. The edition includes a brief study of the two manuscripts recording the proceedings and an examination of the dispute between the monastery and Vasco Rodríguez de Espiño, a squire serving the adelantado mayor of the kingdom of Galicia. The litigation, conducted between 1429 and 1434, concerns the possession of property in the parish of Santa María de Beade. It is considered in the context of the encomiendas and the appropriation of lands and revenues associated with the Sarmiento family, lords of Ribadavia. The document provides evidence of the parties’ arguments, the judicial authorities involved, and the means used to enforce judgments and recover legal costs. It also offers information on monastic life, the population associated with the monastery’s properties, and the positions and offices involved in the proceedings.
