Abstract
Karl Weick died at the age of 89 on 21 May 2026.His death marks the passing of one of the most influential scholars of organisational behaviour. For scholars of work and organisations, in particular, his enduring contribution was to reshape how we imagine organisations themselves: not as static structures detached from human action, but as dynamic accomplishments continually made and remade by people trying to make sense of work and the environments in which it unfolds.Born on 31 October 1936, in Warsaw, Indiana, Weick completed his undergraduate degree
