Abstract
This study aims to describe and analyse the population dynamics and urban sprawl in the border areas of Minahasa Utara Regency. The method used is a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, focus group discussions and documentation. The data analysis technique used in this research is the Miles and Hubberman data analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results show that the population dynamics in the border areas of Minahasa Utara Regency are in demographic transition towards an ageing population, where population growth tends to be high due to high mobility, but birth and death rates are low, and urban sprawl is occurring in Kalawat District due to population and economic growth pressures that affect environmental carrying capacity. Keywords: population dynamics, urban sprawl, environmental carrying capacity Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalis dinamika kependudukan dan urban sprawl di wilayah perbatasan daerah kabupaten Minahasa Utara. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode pendekatan kualitatif. Tehnik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara, observasi, Focus group Discussion dan dokumentasi. Tehnik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis data model Miles dan Hubberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan awal, verifikasi dan penarikan kesimpulan akhir. Hasil penelitian yaitu dinamika perkembangan kependudukan di wilayah perbatasan daerah Kabupaten Minahasa Utara berada dalam transisi demografi ke arah penuaan populasi dimana tingkat pertumbuhan populasi cenderung tinggi yang dipengaruhi oleh tingkat mobilitas yang tinggi namun tingkat kelahiran dan kematian rendah serta terjadinya perkembangan urban sprawl di wilayah Kecamatan Kalawat akibat tekanan pertumbuhan penduduk dan ekonomi yang berpengaruh terhadap daya dukung lingkungan.
