Objective: To explore the knowledge level, teaching application status, influencing factors and challenges of vocational nursing educators in disaster nursing education (DNE), and propose targeted improvement strategies. Methods: An explanatory sequential mixed methods design was adopted. A total of 77 eligible nursing teachers from a vocational college of China were surveyed using the Disaster Nursing Knowledge Test (DNKT) and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Fourteen teachers were selected via quartile-stratified sampling for semi-structured interviews. Results: Participants had a moderate overall DNE knowledge score of 3.61 ± 0.57 (out of 5), and a low average OSCE score of 67.9 ± 12.8 (out of 100). Knowledge level was significantly positively correlated with teaching application (r = 0.672, p < 0.001). Teaching age, professional title, DNE training experience and disaster emergency experience were significant influencing factors (all p < 0.05). The main challenges included shortage of teaching resources, class hour and system constraints, insufficient personal capacity, and disconnection between teaching and clinical practice. Conclusions: Vocational nursing educators have unbalanced DNE knowledge structure and limited application ability. Targeted interventions focusing on resource support, system optimization and capacity building are needed to improve the quality of DNE in vocational colleges.
