Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of various planting media combinations on the growth and production of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) and to determine the best planting media combination. The study was conducted for 56 days using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of a combination of soil, rice husk charcoal, cocopeat, and cow dung. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, wet bulb weight, dry bulb weight, wet stover weight, dry stover weight, bulb diameter, and production per ton ha⁻¹. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a LSD test at the 5% level. The results showed that the planting media combination had no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, and dry stover weight, but had a significant effect on wet bulb weight, dry bulb weight, wet stover weight, bulb diameter, and shallot production. The combination of planting media containing organic materials can improve the condition of the growing media, thereby increasing bulb formation and development. The best treatment was M3 (soil + cocopeat + cow dung; 2:1:1), with the highest yield reaching 9.62 tons ha⁻¹, while M2 (soil + rice husk charcoal + cow dung; 2:1:1) produced the highest wet bulb weight and dry bulb weight. Thus, the combination of cocopeat and cow dung as a growing medium is the most effective in increasing shallot production.
