Abstract
Abstract
Low physical activity and limited basic movement skills among students have become challenges in physical education learning, particularly amid increasing digital technology use and the decline of traditional play activities. This community service program focused on strengthening movement literacy through Papuan traditional games among students of SMP Advent Abepura. The activity aimed to improve students’ locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movement skills while fostering active participation and awareness of local cultural values. The program employed a participatory-educational approach through demonstrations, game practices, group mentoring, and participant evaluations. Through direct involvement in traditional games, students were encouraged to engage in enjoyable and meaningful physical activities. The results showed improvements in basic movement skills, especially locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative abilities. In addition, students demonstrated greater enthusiasm, stronger teamwork, and increased participation during learning activities. The program also enhanced students’ appreciation of Papuan traditional games as part of their cultural heritage. These findings indicate that traditional games can serve as an effective medium for movement learning while supporting the preservation of local culture. Therefore, integrating traditional games into physical education can contribute to improving movement literacy, promoting active lifestyles, and strengthening cultural awareness among younger generations.
