Abstract

Abstract

This paper presents a MOS-only current-mode full-wave rectifier with simultaneous non-inverting and inverting outputs. The core uses ten MOS transistors and no separate diodes or passive resistors. This count does not include the bias-generation circuit. Schematic-level simulations were performed in LTspice using TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS model parameters and ±0.9 V supplies. With a 100 μA sinusoidal input and 1 kΩ output load, the normalized RMS waveform error was 6.56% at 10 kHz and 10.10–10.28% at 100 MHz. Under the same input and load conditions, the proposed circuit gave lower waveform errors than the two-transistor rectifier used for comparison. The maximum absolute DC error over −120 to +120 μA was 10.06 μA, or 8.38% of full scale. Small-signal bandwidths ranged from 1.803 to 2.642 GHz at DC input currents of ±50 μA and do not define the usable large-signal rectification bandwidth. Supply power was 452.13 μW at zero input and 455.90 μW at 10 kHz with a 100 μA input. Further analyses examined noise and sensitivity to operating conditions. A 200-run Monte Carlo analysis with assumed independent Gaussian variations in transistor dimensions and threshold voltages gave a zero-input output-current offset standard deviation of 4.35 μA.
