Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the specific features of psychological training for war veterans in the context of adaptive sport and highlights its significance in the process of psychological recovery, social adaptation and the development of motivation for active sporting participation. The aim of the study is to identify and characterise the specific features of the psychological preparation of war veteran athletes, and to substantiate the role of sport in developing stress resilience, motivation, psychological readiness and social adaptation among veterans. The research findings indicate that the psychological preparation of war veteran athletes is comprehensive and person-centred in nature and must take into account the specifics of combat experience, the level of psychological trauma, emotional state, physical capabilities, motivational sphere and the particularities of veterans’ social adaptation. It has been established that the most common psychological consequences of combat operations are post-traumatic stress disorder, increased anxiety, emotional instability, depressive symptoms, sleep disturbances and difficulties with social interaction. A model of psychological training for veteran athletes and a system of psychological training have been substantiated, the main components of which are the development of stress resilience, the cultivation of intrinsic motivation, team interaction and psychological support within the sporting environment. The important role of the coach as an organiser, mentor, motivator and psychological supporter in the process of veterans’ psychological recovery has been established. It has been demonstrated that participation in sports projects and veterans’ competitions contributes to the improvement of psychological and emotional well-being, increased self-confidence, the development of social activity, and the integration of veterans into society. Sporting activities, combined with psychological support, teamwork and professional coaching, create the conditions for effective psychological recovery, the development of stress resilience and the return of veterans to an active and fulfilling life.
