Abstract
Abstract
Cold, along with fossil and biological resources, is a significant and unique resource of the Arctic, especially the Northeastern part of Eurasia – a region with the lowest temperatures, the most stable permafrost, and the lowest winter temperatures in the inhabited part of the planet. This article is the first attempt to theoretically explain how a decrease in temperature affects information processes, especially in biological systems, by introducing an information component related to entropy into the Gibbs–Helmholtz equation. It explores the theoretical thermodynamic and kinetic as pects of the role of temperature reduction in slowing the rate of information dissipation in isolated, closed, and open systems. It is shown that the temperatures and the temperature range within which this cold function is realized are lower, the lower the binding energy of the elements in the sequence of “code signals” – the material carriers of information in systems, from atomic nuclei to biological systems, water clusters, society, and technical systems — since less energy is required to dissipate such information. The final section presents the results of the preservation of plant seed chromatin over a period of approximately 50 years under storage at temperatures of 265–261 K, maintained solely by the natural cold of permafrost soils and the winter atmosphere in Central Yakutia.
