This paper presents the contribution made by the recently discovered Umayyad wellhead from Qasr al-Hallabat to the completion of a chrono-typological sequence of wellheads in the transition from Classical Antiquity to the Islamic period, specifically for types that use architectural elements to articulate their decoration. This recently discovered wellhead would fill a sequential gap between the well-defined Classical types, with a rather homogeneous evolution until Late Antiquity, and those developed later during the Islamic period in Al-Andalus, where we once again have a rather complete chrono-typological sequence from the 10th to the 15th century CE. In this paper, we will attempt to bridge these two distinct sequences by means of this new example with the diachronical approach of long durèe.
