Abstract
Abstract
The use of biosolids mixed with agricultural soil and controlled-release fertilizers favors morphological development, as well as the concentration of nutrients and total carbohydrates in the foliage. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of biosolids and fertilizer as sources of nutrition on the morphological and physiological variables of two forest species. The experiment was conducted under nursery conditions using a completely randomized experimental design with a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial arrangement. Two forest species, Pinus leiophylla Schl. and Cham. and Pinus greggii Engelm., were evaluated under two fertilization levels (0 and 5 g L-1) and three biosolid doses (0, 0.5, and 1 L). The average foliar concentrations of nitrogen (N, 1.38 %), phosphorus (P, 470.14 mg kg-1), potassium (K, 1395.45 mg kg-1), calcium (Ca, 11 094.76 mg kg-1), magnesium (Mg, 1638.26 mg kg-1), and iron (Fe, 207.74 mg kg-1) were favored by the 1-L biosolid dose compared with treatments that did not receive biosolids. The 5 g L-1 fertilizer treatment resulted in a higher concentration of total foliar carbohydrates (70.34 mg g-1). Further research under field conditions is needed to determine an adequate biosolid dose for each species, as well as the feasibility of applying biosolids to P. leiophylla Schl. and Cham. and P. greggii Engelm. The use of biosolids and controlled-release fertilizers has the potential to modify foliar nutrient and carbohydrate concentrations in both species.
