Abstract
Abstract
The study The Historiography of Special Operations Conducted from Great Britain in Czechoslovakia during the Second World War: State of Research, Problems, and Perspectives examines research on Britishorganized clandestine operations in wartime Czechoslovakia, focusing on the Special Operations Executive (SOE), the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), and Military Intelligence 9 (MI9).It assesses scholarship, identifies its shortcomings, and outlines directions for further study. The article shows how ideological controls imposed by the communist regime after February 1948, including falsified documents, biased interpretations, and the silencing of researchers, distorted the subject for decades. Some fabrications also entered international scholarship through foreignlanguage publications. The author contrasts Czech historiography, which has developed continuously since the 1990s, with Slovak historiography, where the subject remains largely limited to the Slovak National Uprising.Persistent problems include the cult of resistance heroes, the lack of critical assessment of the Second Department of the Ministry of National Defence and František Moravec, nationalist narratives, and imprecise terminology.Future research should compare domestic and foreign archival sources, place the Czechoslovak experience within the European context of British intelligence activities, and examine neglected organizations.
