Abstract

Abstract

In the months following February of 2020, due to the public health contingency triggered in Mexico by SARS CoV-2, university students and professors switched to online classes which brought about notable challenges to teaching. The purpose of this article is to analyze the varied difficulties and pedagogical gaps that arose with online classes during the first wave of COVID-19 infections. This is a descriptive exploratory study, developed based on non-probability sampling, administered through the Google Forms platform. Between the months of January and May of 2021 the authors of this text carried out a survey among students in the Accounting and Administration Department, the School of Visual Arts, and the Education Sciences Institute of the Autonomous University “Benito Juárez” of Oaxaca (UABJO). The survey sought to compile the experiences of students with online classes adopted due to the confinement required during the COVID-19 pandemic. The most meaningful results include the identification of the teaching gaps that emerged during online classes. From the viewpoint of professors and students, we recovered testimonies that show the difficulties and deficiencies in the access to internet during online classes and virtual teaching, within the prevailing conditions of economic and social inequality in the state of Oaxaca.
