This chapter recounts the ministerial experience of a St. Joseph of Lyon sister at the migrant shelter “Albergue Decanal Guadalupano,” located in the municipality of Tierra Blanca in Veracruz, Mexico. This text highlights the deep physical and emotional wounds that migrants in transit through Mexico face along their journeys. Furthermore, following Pope Francis’s call, the author offers some proposals to foster a true “culture of encounter,” enabling society to see, reach out to, and care for migrants with mercy—those who constitute one of the signs of our times. Finally, the chapter outlines a comprehensive proposal for society and migrant shelters to address the global migration crisis from a Christian perspective.
