Abstract
Leiomyoma is a benign tumor that originates from nonstriated smooth muscle and can arise wherever smooth muscle is present.Although the uterus is the most common site, leiomyoma of the hand is extremely rare, likely because smooth muscle is sparse in this region.A 26-yearold right-handed man presented with a tender mass in his right palm that had gradually enlarged over 3 months.Magnetic resonance imaging suggested a schwannoma or a thrombosed hemangioma; however, surgical excision and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of leiomyoma.Primary leiomyoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a nodular, tender mass of the hand, although few cases have been reported to date.
