This article analyses the risks associated with documentary film production in Poland from the perspective of the producer. Although documentary filmmaking belongs to the cultural sector and is rarely profitable in a conventional business sense, the author argues it remains a form of economic activity that requires conscious risk management. The article identifies the main areas of risk, including financing, cash flow, prolonged production, team conflicts, artistic quality, distribution, and responsibility towards the protagonist. Drawing on Polish scholarship, production studies, risk management literature, and the author’s practice-based perspective, the article discusses practical strategies for mitigating these threats. It concludes that effective risk management increases the likelihood of completing the film, reaching an audience, and achieving professional satisfaction.
