Abstract
This article focuses on the linguistic usage of the chancellor of Ourense, García Fernández de Berlanga, based on an analysis of a corpus of 66 documents drawn from the surviving protocol books. The texts, dated between 1444 and 1470, show that the notary uses a predominantly Galician script, although documents drafted primarily in Castilian can also be identified. To highlight the influence of Castilian on García Fernández's Galician writing, we have selected a series of linguistic features, highlighting their greater or lesser incidence in the corpus, including place names. The study is complemented by the complete edition of eight settlements, used partially in the body of the article to exemplify the phenomena of interference.
