A taxonomic review of the genus Stizolophus in Iran has been carried out. One species, namely Stizolophus balsamita, is recognized in the genus. It is established that “(Lam.) Koch” is the correct author for Stizolophus balsamita. Stizolophus balsamita subsp. kermanensis is proposed as a new combination and lectotypified, and St. balsamita subsp. nigra is described as a new subspecies. In addition, the geographic distributions of all the three subspecies recognized in Iran are mapped. Finally, a taxonomic key to the subspecies of St. balsamita is provided.
