Abstract
Abstract
Purpose This scoping review aims to synthesize and extend the literature on team learning, examine how research is conducted in this field and identify and analyze knowledge gaps. Design/methodology/approach The authors based this study on the future research directions identified by Decuyper et al. (2010) and discuss the findings from extant literature along these lines. They included 53 in the review. Findings Three main challenges remain: 1) to build dynamic models that consider the developmental nature of team learning processes over time; 2) the re-examination of the relationships via a non-linear approach; and 3) develop models of team learning that carefully specify the nested nature of team learning between the individual, the team and the organizational level. Originality/value This study advances the conceptual and methodological understanding of team learning, emphasizing the need for dynamic, non-linear and multilevel models. Not only refines existing theoretical perspectives but also establishes a research agenda that bridges critical gaps in the literature, offering a foundation for future empirical and theoretical advancements.
