Abstract
This paper presents the Active Knowledge Modelling (AKM) technology. Its background, its scientific foundations, the discoveries, the industrial proof-of-concept of implementations, and the impacts the AKM technology has and will have on future industrial computing. The AKM technology is far from fully implemented, and the roadmap ahead towards a first realization of a Solution Engineering environment is presented. An AKM is a visual model of enterprise knowledge that can be structured, viewed, traversed, analysed, managed, adapted, executed and reused by industrial users. AKMs possess properties that enable paradigm-shifting approaches and solutions to industrial computing and enterprise knowledge management. Defining, representing and harvesting core enterprise knowledge and its inherent properties are key discoveries of the AKM technology. Some of the approaches and their impacts are summarized in this paper, with references to papers where more detail is given.
