Abstract

Abstract

The article studies the structural and semantic features of new verb-initial compound words (over 70 units) that emerged in the Russian language in the late 20th and early 21st centuries (perekati-banya, vyrvi-ruku, vyruchai-komnata). As the source, we used media texts and dictionaries included in the annual lexicographic monitoring of academic neography of the Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The relevance of the study is determined by the intensive neological processes in the word composition, the active participation of foreign units and their components in Russian compound formations as well as by the interest of researchers in the original Russian linguistic facts, including word formation, related to this historical period. The purpose of the analysis is to identify trends in compound formation and linguacultural transfer. The new verb-initial compound words were divided into two groups, the first one being the words with an initial imperative and the second being the words with an arbitrary verb contraction. Both are characterized by spelling variability (combined/hyphenated/separate). In addition to two-component compounds (nouns and indefinite adjectives), we consider some holophrastic constructions and compound adjectives with a connecting vowel. Complex neologisms with an imperative structure, as the most frequent ones, are actively used in the formation of pragmatonyms, object and abstract nominations, names of persons, journalistic and individual authorial occasionalisms, as well as nationally marked nominations in the field of recreational sports and events. Words of this structure are characterized by appellativation and semantic diffuseness, achieved, among other things, through blending; such model is also used in calques.
