This article analyzes a pedagogical experience developed in teaching History with 1st grade high school classes at the Colégio Militar do Tocantins, in the municipality of Buriti do Tocantins (TO). The proposal articulated Local History and Heritage Education through investigative practices inspired by the work of historians, aiming to encourage the development of the “historian spirit” in students. This is an experience report with a qualitative approach, based on participant observation and analysis of student productions. The results indicate that the articulation between Local History, Heritage Education and historical research favors student engagement, the understanding of heritage as a social construction and the development of historical awareness.
