Abstract
The article examines the factors determining the efficiency of using agricultural land in the constituent entities of the Volga Federal District. To assess the level of land use efficiency, an integral index was used, which includes economic, resource‑structural, and quality‑reproductive blocks of indicators. A correlation analysis was carried out of the relationship between the integral index and the factors characterizing the state of land resources: the level of water and wind erosion, the area of reclaimed land, and unused agricultural lands. It has been established that water erosion of land, as well as the presence of significant areas of unused land, has the most significant negative impact on the efficiency of land use. A positive impact has been identified in relation to land reclamation. The research findings confirm the need for comprehensive land resource management aimed at reducing degradation processes, bringing unused land into economic use, and developing reclamation measures.
