Abstract
Abstract
Education in Northern Nigeria (1981) is a comprehensive account of educational development in that region of Nigeria known from 1900 to 1967, when it was a single administrative and political unit, as the Northern Region. The authors have assembled in one volume contemporary material which is otherwise scattered in reports, journals, textbooks and official publications. They also provide background information which is drawn in part from their own practical experience. The book covers a wide range of topics and looks at the factors that have influenced the evolution of education in the area. It tackles various issues and problems. It examines, for example, the way in which Islamic culture has affected education and explores trends and developments in a period when socio-economic conditions were altering rapidly.
