Abstract
Abstract
The processing of mathematical information involves complex cognitive functions, mediated mainly by the prefrontal cortex, such as attention, working memory, and cognitive effort. Despite advances in neuroscience and cognitive psychology, mathematical models capable of dynamically describing the interaction between these processes during the resolution of mathematical problems are still scarce. This article proposes a dynamic model based on a system of nonlinear differential equations that simulates the interaction between attention, working memory, and cognitive effort. Three simulation scenarios were analyzed:i) low complexity task, ii) moderate complexity, and iii) high complexity. The results reproduce cognitive phenomena widely described in the literature, such as cognitive overload, attentional oscillations, and stability under low demand. The model shows potential for applications in Neuroeducation and in the planning of evidence-based pedagogical practices.
