Since the writings of Grice-Hutchinson, interest in the economic insights of the School of Salamanca has grown steadily. Especially among representatives of the Austrian School, the Spanish authors of the early modern period are regarded as precursors of modern economics due to their economic achievements. This paper examines the methods and contexts in which the authors of the School of Salamanca addressed economic questions, describes the economic topics they discussed, and shows what conclusions they reached. Using the example of the just price, it outlines how economic theory emerged from moral philosophy. The paper also critically examines to what extent and in what ways later economists truly built upon the insights of the authors from Salamanca.
