The article examines the pedagogical potential of mathematical disciplines included in the module of self-development of educational programs of technical university. The relevance of the research is determined by the need for students to develop not only professional, but also universal competencies that ensure adaptability in the context of digital transformation of engineering activities. The authors analyzed the structure of the self-development module as a tool for individualizing the educational trajectory, highlighted the key aspects of the influence of elective disciplines on the personal and professional development of students. Using the example of the discipline "Applied Statistics", the methodological features of teaching, the competencies formed and the expected educational effects are revealed. It is shown that the integration of applied mathematics into the self-development unit helps to bridge the gap between fundamental training and engineering practice, stimulates motivation for self-education and lays the foundations for digital literacy of the future specialist. The research materials can be used in the design of educational programs of higher technical schools focused on the development of students' personal potential.
