Abstract

Abstract

The author clarified the details of the damage due to the 1898 earthquake occurred on the Itoshima Peninsula in northwest Fukuoka Prefecture, adding newly found newspaper articles and so on. At the time, this region was a rural area apart from major cities, but today the eastern part has been merged into Fukuoka City and the western part has become suburbanized. Damage by town and village at the time was listed in a table by municipalities and discussed in relation with their geographical location and historical background.
