Young generation’s educational aspects in the Kingdom of Poland in the years 1905-1914 in the lay Catholics’ magazines - between tradition and modernity

Abstract

The article is to present the visions, views and postulates on the care and upbringing of the young generation, which clashed in the religious press of the Kingdom of Poland at the beginning of XXth century. The magazines for the lay Catholics appearing in the years 1905-1914 were analysed: ”Polak-Katolik”, ”Kronika Rodzinna”, ”Dzwonek Częstochowski”, ”Przewodnik Katolicki”, ”Posiew”, ”Prąd”, ”Myśl Katolicka”. The aim of the article is to show the diversity of the undertaken issues, constituting vision of the Catholic upbringing and the model of the child care was born, and an attempt to trace the pedagogical postulates – through the analysis of press materials as a source for the historical and pedagogical research – which have paved their way among progressive pedagogical views in the topic of the upbringing in the specific circle of recipients of the religious press. The research problems undertaken include postulates regarding the forms of care and upbringing of children, the functions and tasks of the family, as well as the selection of the directions and methods of moral education of the young generation of Catholics in the context of modernization changes.
