GREEN FINANCE AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN FINANCIAL SYSTEMS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science | Jun 21, 2026

Abstract

Abstract

Green finance has emerged as a critical component in aligning financial practices with environmental sustainability. This paper explores how green financial instruments-such as green bonds, ESG investments, and sustainability-linked loans-are helping to redirect capital towards eco-friendly initiatives.Drawing insights from recent policy developments and global case studies, the study assesses the role of regulators, financial institutions, and digital innovation in strengthening the green finance ecosystem in India. The findings reveal that although India has made promising progress through sovereign green bonds and regulatory mandates, challenges such as limited retail participation, lack of standard ESG metrics, and exclusion of small businesses persist. The study suggests that enhanced financial literacy, digital outreach, and policy coherence are essential to mainstream green finance and bridge the gap between capital markets and climate goals. This research contributes to ongoing discussions in sustainable finance and offers recommendations for policymakers, educators, and financial institutions seeking to scale green investments across diverse sectors of the Indian economy.
